When 44 pupils from Chelmsford set off for Disneyland Paris at 4:30 am on a chilly Thursday morning, excitement was high. From coach rides and passport control to ferry crossings, the group navigated the journey smoothly. Throughout the trip, the pupils showed patience, respect, and understanding, which set the tone for a successful visit.
“I have never been prouder.”
Friday was their first full day at Disney, and many of the senior pupils, travelling without parents, made the most of their independence. While they explored the parks and enjoyed the big rides, they often returned to spend time with their teachers, reflecting the strong sense of community within the group.
Impressive Performances and Memorable Moments
The main event was their performance, which went off without a hitch. With over 1,000 audience members watching, the pupils delivered a confident and well-prepared display of storytelling and expression. The smiles and engagement on stage were met with warm applause, making all the rehearsals worthwhile.
“I wanted her to feel a part of something, but I had no idea how magical the whole thing around it would be.”
For one parent, the trip offered more than just a chance to watch her 10-year-old daughter perform. It was an opportunity to see her child’s confidence and ability grow in a new environment. Reflecting on the experience, she shared:
“Moreover for me, every time I see her perform, I see how much her confidence has grown, how much her ability to follow instructions has developed and how happy she looks.”
A Supportive Environment to Build Confidence
Theatretrain’s approach to creating a supportive and encouraging environment was highlighted by the parent’s comments:
“What you create through Theatretrain is exactly that, to hold her space and be comfortable being looked at and have a voice are such valuable life skills and I am sincerely grateful for what you do.”
Overall, the trip was a valuable experience for the Chelmsford pupils—not only for the thrill of performing at Disneyland but also for the lessons in independence and teamwork that came with it.
