Former Theatretrain Basingstoke student Nick is heading to London’s West End — and we couldn’t be prouder.
Having trained with us as a young performer before going on to pursue full-time professional training, Nick has now landed the roles of James Potter and Cedric Diggory in the West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Even more incredibly, this will mark his West End debut.
Watching a former Theatretrain Basingstoke student achieve something like this is incredibly special.
Where Nick’s performing journey began
Long before professional drama school and the West End, Nick was developing his skills as a young performer at Theatretrain Basingstoke.
Like all of our students, his training involved developing the foundations that young performers need: acting, singing, dance, stagecraft, confidence, discipline and the ability to work as part of an ensemble.
Those early years of training matter. Young performers do not need to know at six, ten or fourteen exactly where their journey will take them. What they do need is the opportunity to explore their potential, develop strong foundations and discover just how much they love performing.
For some students, performing arts will remain a wonderful hobby that builds confidence, friendships and skills for life. For others, that early passion develops into something they want to pursue professionally.
Nick is a wonderful example of where dedication, talent and consistent training can lead.
Building strong foundations as a young performer

There is no single route into the performing arts industry, but having strong foundations gives aspiring performers something incredibly valuable to build upon as their training becomes more advanced.
From Theatretrain to professional training at Mountview
After leaving Theatretrain, Nick continued to pursue his ambition of becoming a professional performer. His journey ultimately took him to Mountview for professional training.
Professional training is demanding. It requires commitment, resilience, discipline and a willingness to keep learning and developing — qualities that young performers begin building long before they arrive at drama school.
Nick graduated this summer, marking the end of one chapter of his training and the beginning of an incredibly exciting professional career.
And what a beginning it is.
Making his West End debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
Nick will now join the West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, playing the roles of James Potter and Cedric Diggory.
To graduate from professional training and step into a major West End production is an extraordinary achievement — and to do so for his West End debut makes this moment even more special.
For those of us who knew Nick as a young performer, seeing him take this next step is incredibly exciting. There is something very moving about watching the journey from weekly training and early performances to professional drama school and, now, a West End stage.
Why training matters for young performers
Success stories like Nick’s are wonderful to celebrate, but they also demonstrate something we feel very strongly about at Theatretrain Basingstoke: young performers deserve excellent training.
Talent is important, but talent alone is rarely enough. Performers need technique. They need to learn how to take direction, work with other people, prepare properly, respond under pressure and continue developing even when something feels difficult.
That is why our performing arts classes in Basingstoke are designed to give children and teenagers meaningful training and genuine performance experience, whether they dream of a professional career or simply love being on stage.
Training the next generation of performers
One of the greatest privileges of teaching young performers is that you never quite know where their journey may lead.
The student standing in your class today learning how to approach a monologue, master a piece of choreography or perform confidently in front of an audience may one day be auditioning for drama school, working professionally on screen or stepping onto a West End stage.
Our job is not to promise every child a professional career. It is to give them the strongest training we can, encourage their individuality and help those with the dedication and drive to pursue their ambitions.
