Theatretrain Isle of Wight has once again affirmed its place at the forefront of youth performing arts, earning exceptional praise and multiple accolades at the IW Theatre Awards 2025. With awards across individual categories, full-cast performances, and even standout theatrical moments, the students’ hard work, creativity, and dedication were widely recognised.
Theatretrain, a nationwide performing arts company known for nurturing young talent in acting, singing, and dancing, continues to shine thanks to the collaborative spirit and professional training at its Isle of Wight centre. This year’s awards season has been a triumphant one, with students also delivering a show-stopping performance at the Island’s Music, Dance and Drama Festival – yet another testament to their versatility and passion for the stage.
Among the highlights at the IW Theatre Awards, students were honoured with Gold, Silver and Bronze awards, recognising individual excellence in roles from Elf the Musical, Chicago, and We Will Rock You.
Gold Award recipients were praised for their vocal strength, emotional range, and charismatic stage presence. One performer’s rendition of Never Fall in Love (With an Elf) was hailed as a musical highlight, while another was described as “a formidable triple threat” – high praise from judges who saw many of the island’s best young performers in 2024.
Silver Awards were awarded for standout portrayals including Roxie in Chicago, Buddy in Elf, and Galileo in We Will Rock You. The judges applauded the performers for their strong vocals, emotional nuance, and on-stage energy. Each brought their characters vividly to life, showing maturity and dedication well beyond their years.
Bronze Awards were given to a group of promising young talents who impressed the judges with their performances across multiple productions. These students placed in the top 10% of young performers seen during the year – a remarkable achievement in itself.
In addition to individual recognition, Theatretrain Isle of Wight was awarded Best Principal Cast for Chicago, an ambitious production that delivered both artistic flair and emotional depth. Judges praised the all-female cast and highlighted specific performances for their charm and complexity.
The production of We Will Rock You was also honoured with Best Theatrical Moment, in a scene that combined multimedia, music, and emotion. As images of iconic musicians played across the screen to the tune of Only the Good Die Young, the audience was visibly moved. The judges remarked on the sensitivity and style with which the moment was handled.
Additional praise was given to Elf the Musical for its festive energy and engaging performances, with the younger audience members reportedly captivated by the playful antics on stage. Across all productions, the judges noted a strong sense of ensemble, attention to detail, and a high level of professionalism.
To be recognised across so many categories—individual excellence, ensemble strength, and emotional storytelling—is a tremendous honour for the students and creative team at Theatretrain Isle of Wight. It reflects not only the talent of the young performers but also the dedication of the staff and the high-quality training that Theatretrain offers across the UK.
