Theatretrain Isle of Wight Celebrates Big Wins at the IW Theatre Awards 2025

Incredible recognition for our students and shows across the board

We are over the moon to share the amazing success of Theatretrain Isle of Wight at this year’s IW Theatre Awards 2025. From top individual accolades to standout productions, our students’ hard work and talent truly shone—and we are bursting with pride!

Gold Award Winners:

Olivia – Gold Award

Olivia’s performance as Jovie in Elf the Musical received high praise from the IW Theatre judges, who said:

“What a voice this young actor possesses, and she was so emotive with it – her number, ‘Never Fall In Love (With An Elf)’ was truly one of the musical highlights of the show… She threw her whole self into her performance.”

Lottie – Gold Award

Though Lottie couldn’t attend the ceremony due to being on holiday, her incredible work as Velma in Chicago didn’t go unnoticed. IW Theatre described her as:

“A beautiful dancer who is fast becoming a formidable triple threat… Her vocals were strong… she skilfully managed to convince us of all these facets of her character.”

Lottie will also be playing Sandy in Grease at The Mayflower this summer—a huge congratulations!

Silver Award Winners:

Mary – Silver Award

Mary smashed the role of Roxie in Chicago. Judges said she made Roxie “eminently loveable” and had the audience rooting for her throughout.

Logan – Silver Award

Logan was a fabulous Walter in Elf the Musical, giving a mature, grounded performance that added heart to the show.

Lilly – Silver Award

Lilly took on the challenging role of Galileo in We Will Rock You and delivered with confidence and charisma.

Charlotte – Silver Award

Charlotte played Galileo in We Will Rock You and took the lead as Buddy in Elf – and excelled in both roles with versatility and energy.

Bronze Award Winners:

Florence, Roscoe, Lyla, Ruby, Poppy, Catherine, and Livie-Mai.

Each young person receiving this award has been recognised as excellent in at least one production during 2024 – placing them in the top 10% of young performers seen by IW Theatre judges. A huge well done to all!

Show Awards:

Best Principal Cast – Chicago

Our Chicago cast was awarded Best Principal Cast, with IW Theatre calling it:

“Such an ambitious show for a young cast… the all-female cast was on the whole an excellent decision. The leads were truly brilliant… a fantastic set of young performers who really gave it their all.”

The judges highlighted Mary’s portrayal of Roxie:

“There’s always a risk with Roxie that she will become unlikeable… but Mary made her eminently loveable, and there’s no doubt the audience was rooting for her.”

They also praised Lyla for her role as Amos:

“To portray a forgettable character without being forgettable yourself takes nuance and skill, which Lyla possessed in buckets.”

Best Theatrical Moment – We Will Rock You

We were deeply honoured that We Will Rock You was recognised for creating the Best Theatrical Moment of 2024:

“The pictures of musicians we have lost scrolling up on the screen set to ‘Only the Good Die Young’ had me in tears… It brought tears to the audience’s eyes (in a good way). This one always has the potential to be a bit corny but Theatretrain handled it with class and style.”

Other Show Highlights – From the Judges:

Elf the Musical

“There were standout moments within the show and from the principal cast… it certainly didn’t lack in Christmas spirit. The children in the audience were loving the mad antics of Buddy the Elf.”

Chicago

“The look and feel of the show were strong, and the leads were truly brilliant… complex choreography and jazzy music – and it definitely paid off.”

We Will Rock You

“It was pleasing to see so many youngsters of all ages involved… a solid cast full of energy and enthusiasm. The background actors always stayed in character, inhabiting the roles they created well.”

To be recognised across so many categories—individual excellence, ensemble strength, and emotional impact—is a huge honour and a credit to every single young performer who took part in our 2024 productions.

We’re so proud of each and every one of you, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of 2025 brings.
