Our Main Company in Hellesdon is Theatretrain Norwich’s flagship performing arts programme for children and young people aged 6–18. Students enjoy three hours of acting, singing and dance every Saturday, working with specialist teachers in each discipline.
In our inclusive, group-based environment, students are encouraged to be themselves, build confidence and develop their creativity. Through weekly training, rehearsals and performances, they develop their skills, make friends and experience the excitement of being part of a performing arts company.

Students come together in their age groups for three hours of acting, singing and dancing each Saturday, learning new skills, getting creative and having plenty of fun along the way!
As the year progresses, sessions also become rehearsals for performances, giving every student the chance to experience the excitement of performing on stage.
What To Expect From Your Theatretrain Experience…
Dance
From learning new routines to exploring different dance styles, our students get moving, build their skills and enjoy expressing themselves through dance.Along the way, they develop coordination, confidence and performance skills while having fun and dancing together as a group.
Act
Through drama games, improvisation, scripts and character work, students are encouraged to use their imaginations, express themselves and bring stories to life.Acting helps them develop confidence, communication and creativity while having fun exploring different characters and idea
Sing
From vocal warm-ups and fun songs to learning how to sing together as a group, students develop their voices, musicality and confidence through singing.They learn new skills, explore different styles of music and experience the enjoyment of making music and performing together.
Get real performance experience
Performance is a big part of Theatretrain. Our students have opportunities to take part in shows, showcases and events, putting the skills they develop in class into practice and experiencing the excitement of performing for an audience.
Every other year, students also have the opportunity to take part in Theatretrain’s large-scale national production, with previous performances taking place at prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall and West End theatres.
These experiences give students the chance to make fantastic memories, grow in confidence and discover what it feels like to be part of a real production.

What happens during a Theatretrain Main Company session?
Each Saturday, students enjoy three hours of performing arts training, with one hour each of acting, singing and dance. They work with specialist teachers in each discipline, developing their skills through drama exercises, scripts and character work, vocal training and group singing, and a variety of dance styles and routines.
Alongside their weekly training, students work towards performances and have opportunities to put the skills they are learning into practice on stage.
Can my child try Theatretrain Main Company before joining?
Yes! New students can take advantage of our 2-for-1 taster offer and enjoy two Saturday Main Company sessions for just £25 in total.
This gives your child the chance to meet their teachers and group, experience acting, singing and dance, and get a real feel for Theatretrain before deciding whether they would like to join us regularly.
Does my child need previous acting, singing or dancing experience?
Not at all. No previous performing arts experience is needed to join Theatretrain Main Company. We welcome complete beginners as well as children and young people who already have experience in acting, singing or dance.
Our teachers support students at their individual level, helping them develop their skills, challenge themselves and grow in confidence as they progress.
Can shy or less confident children join Theatretrain Main Company?
Absolutely. Children don’t need to be naturally confident or outgoing to enjoy Theatretrain. Our Main Company provides a friendly and supportive environment where students are encouraged to participate, try new things and develop at their own pace.
Through acting, singing, dance and working together with their group, we often see students become more comfortable expressing themselves and grow in confidence both on and off stage.
How much does Theatretrain Main Company cost?
Theatretrain Main Company costs £83 per month by Direct Debit, with payments spread evenly across the year.
New students can first try Main Company with our 2-for-1 taster offer – two Saturday sessions for £25 in total.
If your child decides to join after their taster sessions, there is a one-off £20 registration fee.
We also offer a 50% discount for families receiving Universal Credit (proof of eligibility is required), as well as a 50% sibling discount for the youngest sibling when more than one child from the same family attends Theatretrain Norwich.
