Our goal is to inspire children of all ages to discover their talents, grow in confidence, and have fun while learning the disciplines of singing, dancing, and acting.
We group our students into three age categories:
1. The Minis: Ages 4-5
Our youngest stars, the Minis, are introduced to the magical world of performing arts through fun and engaging activities tailored to their age. These classes focus on building coordination, rhythm, and creativity, all while nurturing their confidence and imagination. At this stage, children learn through play and simple exercises, which lay the foundation for more complex skills later on.
For Minis, the emphasis is on movement, games, and simple songs, all designed to help them feel comfortable expressing themselves in front of others. It’s a great way for young children to make friends, build social skills, and have a lot of fun.
2. Group 1: Ages 6-8
In group 1, we start to build on the basics with a more structured approach to singing, dancing, and acting. Children are introduced to performance techniques in a way that keeps learning exciting and accessible. This is the age where students begin to understand the fundamentals of storytelling through performance.
At Theatretrain, we understand that children in this age group have vivid imaginations and boundless energy. Our classes harness that enthusiasm by encouraging students to express themselves fully and confidently. They learn not only the technical aspects of performance but also how to work as part of a team, developing essential social skills.
3. Group 2: Ages 9-12
As children move into group 2, they begin to explore more challenging material in each discipline. Singing classes introduce harmonies and more complex rhythms, while drama sessions focus on character development and script work. Dance classes in this group emphasise technique and choreography, preparing students for more intricate routines.
This is also a time when students are encouraged to begin thinking critically about the performances they watch and participate in. They are introduced to the idea of interpreting characters and stories with depth, bringing their own unique perspective to the stage. It’s all about building on the basics and challenging students to push their limits while having fun.
4. Group 3: Ages 13-18
For our oldest students, group 3, Theatretrain becomes a place to refine their skills and take their performances to the next level. Classes are more focused on the technical aspects of performing arts, with advanced work in all three disciplines – singing, acting, and dancing. Whether students are aiming for a career in performing arts or simply looking to enjoy their time on stage, they receive high-quality training from experienced professionals.
In group 3, we also focus on preparing students for future opportunities, whether that’s further education in the arts, professional auditions, or simply the confidence to pursue their goals, whatever they may be. Students in this group are given leadership opportunities and are often role models for the younger students, helping to foster a supportive and encouraging environment.
A Place for Every Age and Stage
At Theatretrain, we believe that the performing arts are for everyone, no matter their age or ability level. Our curriculum is designed to grow with the child, providing new challenges and opportunities as they progress through each age group. This not only helps students develop their performance skills but also keeps them engaged and motivated year after year.
What makes Theatretrain unique is our commitment to helping students not just become better performers but also more confident, capable individuals. From our youngest Minis to our oldest group 3’s, each student is given the tools they need to succeed – both on and off the stage.
So whether your child is taking their first steps into the world of performing arts or is looking to develop their skills further, Theatretrain is here to help them shine. We welcome children of all abilities and backgrounds, offering a place where they can discover their talents, build their confidence, and most importantly, have fun!
