Theatre Sessions At Theatretrain Torbay
Professional dance, singing and acting training to set your child on the right path...to confidence, friendships and performance!
What is a ‘taster session’?
This simply means that your child or teen will come along to a session at Theatretrain Torbay, without you having to make any sort of commitment.
We offer 2 (half price) taster sessions because we want your young person to have the chance to experience our classes for themselves. Coming back for a second session always feels easier than the first time!
What happens when I book a taster session?
First, you will receive a confirmation email with all of the the information needed, such as what to wear, bring and where to park!
You’ll also get a little ‘hello’ video from the team (we’ve found that some young people feel more comfortable arriving to familiar faces).
When you arrive, our staff will welcome you and know your child or teen by name. They will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions…but if yours isn’t there, don’t hesitate to ask!
How will my child or teen cope if they are nervous?
Please don’t worry. We are used to young people arriving with nerves, and we always introduce them to a buddy from their age group, who will help them to navigate the session.
Am I allowed to stay?
Of course! We know that sometimes having their adult with them in the room, or even outside the room, can make all the difference. You are welcome to judge what is best for your own young person. Our priority is them feeling safe and secure.
What if they don’t want to join in?
It is completely up to the child or teen to join in as much or as little as they like. Some young people throw themselves straight in, others are more watchful. This is absolutely fine.
Our aim is to meet your child or teen where they are and to ensure that they feel appreciated as an individual.

Dance
Our professional choreographers instruct young people in a huge range of dance styles and techniques, letting them collaborate as a group and find the power of movement.

Act
We empower your child to express themselves without judgement, encouraging them to take on characters, tell creative stories and follow their passion for acting.

Sing
We encourage all our students to build their confidence through song, embracing technical and real-world techniques used by singing professionals.

What is ‘Main Company’?
Main Company is the Saturday class, where children and teens are split by age groups. They will have an hour each of acting, singing and dance, each led by a different teacher.
Main Company students have classes and performances throughout the year: a Christmas pantomime, a Spring Cabaret and our Summer Shows, which gives them plenty of opportunities to perform in real theatres.

Do you have classes over the summer?
Yes! We have a Summer School tradition: a show in a week!
We begin on a Monday, work from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily for 6 days, then perform the show in a theatre on the Saturday night!
