How much does Theatretrain Cost?

Here is a breakdown of all the costs involved when you join Theatretrain Hitchin, Letchworth or Stevenage

How Much Does Theatretrain Cost

If you’re thinking about Theatretrain, one of the first things you’ll probably want to know is how much Theatretrain costs.

I completely understand. Before committing to a weekly activity, you want to know not only the regular fees, but whether there are any other costs you need to budget for too.

So I’ve put everything here in one place.

These are the current costs for Theatretrain Hitchin, Letchworth and Stevenage, including weekly classes, registration, performances and sibling discounts.

How Much Do Theatretrain Main Company Classes Cost?

Our Main Company students (6-18yrs) attend for three hours each week during term time, with one hour each of singing, dancing and drama.

When you first join

You’ll receive an invoice for the remaining weeks of the current term.

You can pay this in instalments through our Parent Portal, so you don’t have to pay the whole amount at once.

From your second term

You can choose between:

  • £80 per month by Direct Debit, spread evenly across the year
  • £288–£336 per term, depending on the number of weeks in that term

How Much Do Theatretrain Minis Classes Cost?

Theatretrain Minis is for children aged 4–5.

Sessions last 90 minutes each week during term time, with singing, dancing and drama all included.

When you first join

You’ll receive an invoice covering the remaining weeks of that term.

Again, this can be paid in instalments through our Parent Portal.

From your second term

You can choose:

  • £47 per month by Direct Debit, spread evenly across the year
  • £168–£196 per term, depending on the number of weeks

Is There a Registration Fee?

Yes. When your child joins Theatretrain there is a one-off £25 registration fee.

This includes their Theatretrain T-shirt, which we use as our uniform.

There isn’t another annual registration fee after that.

Is there a sibling discount?

Yes.

If two siblings attend our Main Company sessions, the second child receives a 50% tuition discount.

That means their fee is currently £40 per month, or half the usual termly fee.

Are Theatretrain Shows an Extra Cost?

Yes, performances can involve some additional costs.

We put on local productions as well as occasional large-scale Theatretrain productions in venues such as London’s West End or the Royal Albert Hall.

We don’t normally take part in a London production every year. They tend to come around approximately once every two to three years.

Because every production is different, costs vary, but this gives you a useful guide.

Are There Any Other Costs for Theatretrain Minis?

Our Minis take part in local performances rather than the large London Theatretrain productions, so there are fewer additional expenses.

As a rough guide:

What Does the Theatretrain Fee Include?

For Main Company, your fee includes:

  • Three hours of performing arts training each week
  • Singing, dancing and drama
  • Experienced Theatretrain teachers
  • Regular opportunities to perform
  • Rehearsals during your usual Theatretrain sessions
  • Being part of an ensemble rather than separate pay-per-subject classes

For Minis, it includes:

  • A 90-minute weekly session
  • Singing, dancing and drama
  • Age-appropriate performing arts activities
  • Small group teaching
  • Opportunities to perform locally

Is Theatretrain a Termly Commitment?

Theatretrain is a commitment.

I think that’s important to say.

It isn’t really designed as a class that children dip in and out of from week to week. The children work together, build relationships and gradually develop their confidence and performing skills.

That’s also why I want parents to know the full cost before joining.

I’d much rather you understood the fees, the additional costs and the commitment involved before booking, so you can decide whether Theatretrain feels right for your family.

And if you’re not sure yet, that’s exactly what our taster sessions are for.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Theatretrain?

If you’re thinking about Theatretrain for your child, I could give you a very long list of reasons why I think it’s brilliant. I’ve been part of Theatretrain for years, so obviously I’m not completely neutral! But I also don’t think it’s helpful to pretend there are no downsides. Every children’s activity has things that will suit some families brilliantly and things that won’t work for others. So if you’re trying to decide whether Theatretrain is right for your child, here are what I think are the genuine pros and cons.

Is Theatretrain Right for My Child? 7 Reasons It Might Not Be

I’m going to say something that probably sounds a bit odd coming from someone who runs Theatretrain. Theatretrain is not right for every child. And I think it’s really important to be honest about that. Of course, I want children to come along, enjoy it and hopefully stay with us for years. But I’d much rather tell you that Theatretrain might not be the right fit than persuade you to join and have your child miserable a few weeks later.

Performing Arts School vs Dance School: Which Would Suit My Child?

If your child loves performing, you might find yourself choosing between a performing arts school and a dance school. At first glance, they can look quite similar. There may be music. There may be performances. There will probably be lots of energetic children coming out at the end! But the experience your child gets can be quite different. Neither is necessarily better than the other. The important question is: Which one is the better fit for your child?
