Is 3 Hours Too Long?
What those 3 hours usually actually feel like
On paper, 3 hours can sound like a lot.
For plenty of parents, that’s one of the first things they wonder.
But once children are actually in it – moving between classes, meeting people and staying busy, it often feels very different to what parents first imagined.
So here’s what those 3 hours usually actually look like.

Theatretrain is made up of 3 core subjects: Singing, Dance and Drama
This isn’t one long 3-hour class.
Children move between different spaces, different teachers and different types of learning throughout the session.
That variety is a big part of why Theatretrain often feels very different to what many parents first imagine.

What the day actually looks like
Each of our locations runs at different times, so this is just a guide. Each week we rotate which group starts with which subject just to keep it fresh and exciting from week to week.

10.00am-11.00am SINGING
This usually involves far more than simply standing still and singing songs. There’s warm-up, movement, performance and learning, but also a big focus on storytelling, confidence and helping children connect to what they’re singing.

11am-11.50am DANCE
Dance brings a completely different kind of energy. Children move, learn, perform and build coordination in a way that feels active, engaging and very different to the previous session. It’s another shift in focus, which is a big part of what keeps the day feeling varied.

11.50am-12.00pm BREAK TIME
There’s also a proper break built into the day. Children get the chance to pause, have a quick snack, chat, reset and recharge before heading into the final session. For many, this is also where friendships start building.

12.00pm-1.00pm DRAMA
Drama brings yet another different type of learning. Through games, storytelling, character work and group activities, children build confidence, communication and creativity in a way that often feels completely different again. That variety is a big part of why Theatretrain rarely feels like one long 3-hour class.
It’s busy, varied and constantly changing.
Which is a big part of why it rarely feels like one long class.
That’s a big part of why 3 hours at Theatretrain often feels very different to what many parents first imagine.
Will my child get tired?

Sometimes, yes.
Three hours is still three hours.
But tired doesn’t automatically mean it was too much… often, it simply means they’ve been busy, social, active and fully engaged.
Often, it’s the good kind of tired.
Is it too much for a shy child?

Not usually.
For many shy children, the structure and variety can actually help.
There’s space to watch first, time to settle, and lots of different ways to gradually join in without everything resting on one moment.
What if they lose focus?

Because they’re regularly moving between different spaces, subjects and teachers, it often feels much more engaging than one long class.
In fact, many parents are surprised by how quickly the time actually goes.

What surprises parents most?
- How quickly the time seems to go
- How much their child gets involved
- How quickly many children start settling in
- How different each part of the day feels
- How happy (and tired!) they are at the end

The honest truth?
Yes… 3 hours can sound like a lot before you’ve actually experienced it. But very often, the idea feels bigger than the reality.
Once parents actually see the structure, the pace and how much variety there is, it often feels very different to what they first imagined.
