Your First Saturday at Theatretrain
Starting something new can feel like a big step, especially when it’s your child.
This guide is here to walk you through exactly what happens on a Theatretrain Saturday, so you can decide whether a taster session feels right for your family.
Where Theatretrain Letchworth Takes Place
When: Saturdays,
Minis Ages 4–5: 9:15–10:45 or 10:45–12:15
Main Company Ages 6–18: 9:00–12:00
Where: St Christopher’s School, Letchworth
When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a member of our team who will help you and your child get settled. We’ll show your child where to go and answer any last-minute questions you might have before the session begins.
Parking is straightforward, and we’ll make it clear which entrance to use so you’re not left guessing on the day.
What the Morning Looks Like
The taster session runs exactly like a normal Theatretrain Saturday, so your child gets a proper feel for what we do.
The Main Company sessions are split into three one-hour sessions, and the Minis sessions are split into three 30min sessions rotating through:
- singing
- dance
- drama
Everything is done in groups. Children are guided step by step, and no one is put on the spot.
We focus on:
- warming up gently
- learning through fun activities
- building confidence at a pace that feels comfortable

If Your Child Is Feeling Nervous
This is one of the most common worries parents share with us, and it’s completely normal.
Many children arrive feeling unsure, quiet, or clingy. Our team is very used to this and knows how to support children calmly and sensitively.
Here’s what usually helps:
- children start as part of a group straight away
- no one is asked to speak or perform alone
- staff keep a close eye and gently encourage participation
- children are allowed time to settle in their own way
In most cases, once the session gets going, nerves ease naturally. If a child needs a moment, we handle that quietly and kindly.
What Parents Do During the Session
Once your child is settled, parents are welcome to:
head off and return at the end of the session
grab a coffee nearby
run errands or enjoy a bit of Saturday breathing space
If we ever need to contact you, we will, but most parents tell us their child settles quickly and enjoys being part of the group.
What Won’t Happen on Your First Saturday
We think this part matters just as much as what does happen.
There are no auditions
No pressure to perform solo
No expectation of previous experience
No “sink or swim” moments
Your child will never be forced to do anything they’re not ready for.
The Team Supporting Your Child
Your child will be looked after by experienced Theatretrain teachers who are there to do two things well:
teach great singing, dancing and drama
make children feel safe, supported and encouraged
We keep group sizes manageable so every child is noticed and supported throughout the morning.
By the End of the Morning, You’ll Know…
By the end of the session, most parents feel clear about a few important things:
whether their child enjoyed the session
whether they felt comfortable and supported

Booking a Taster Session
Our 3-hour taster session is priced at £25 – the same full experience children enjoy every Saturday.
We do this so:
numbers stay small
children are properly supported
families get a genuine experience of what Theatretrain is like
