Theatretrain Raise £62K for Theodora Children’s Charity

At the beginning of November this year all 68 Theatretrain centres around the country took part in a 30 min Dance-a-thon to raise money for Theodora Children’s Charity

The Theodora Children’s Charity believes that all children deserve laughter. The mission at the heart of their work is to contribute to the wellbeing of children in hospitals, hospices and specialist care centres by providing visits from professional performers who have been trained to work in a medical environment.

The Giggle Doctors visit children in hospitals, hospices and specialist care centres across England. By combining music, play, magic and storytelling these professional performers bring magical moments to brave children in challenging times. We believe that every sick or disabled child should get the giggles that only a Giggle Doctor can bring.

Although a Giggle Doctor visit may only last a few minutes, the effect it can have on a child can last a lifetime. The visits often have a lasting impact on the children and families they visit. We often receive feedback from parents telling us the visits have helped to improve a child’s long-term experience of hospital.

We had 3 events, one on Friday evening, one Saturday morning and one Saturday afternoon. During these events all centres taking part danced for the same 30 mins to the same playlist. Most centres streamed sections of the dance-a-thon on Facebook. Huge thanks to Olly Murs who gave us special permission to stream his song ‘Dance With Me Tonight’.

All the money raised was then paid into the Big Give and was then match funded.

Giving a grand total of £62,738.92!

Thank you to everyone who danced and supported us. Special thanks to Sara Shepherd and Mark Everard for organising everything.
