Getting your Mo and Jo back together

We have a great creative team at Theatretrain. Our Graphic Designer Mark runs a centre in Maldon, Essex and parent said to him “I hope the centre can open up soon – he needs to get his mojo back.”

What a wonderful expression. That simple phrase says what most of the country feels. We’veall been going through a difficult time and now we want to get back to what we love. Sowe decided to make a MOJO campaign to let everyone know about our plans. Mark made these two figures with smiley faces. Our Social Media manager Sarah said “Hey that’s MO and JO.” Brilliant – that’s the fun of being in a team with everyone throwing things into the mix.

So here we are with a two-week profile-raising event. We opened with Theatretrain pupils creating a signed version of our charity song “Somewhere” for British Sign Language Week. We have some other goodies in store but our biggest task is to tell more people about what we do.

It’s the gathering together that we social animals have missed.”

How can our young people get their mojo back? I’d say – make new friends, create stuff together and get in touch with their feelings. You can do that easily in acting, dancing and singing. You can sing your heart out, dance your shoes off and act your socks off! But together! It’s the gathering together that we social animals have missed. When you sing your heart out you make a sound that encourages others to do the same and it releases something powerful. It’s the same in acting and dancing.

This may or may not happen immediately but it’s what we are about because we know the power of that release of feelings in the work. It makes you feel good not only during the session but after. It makes you a bit hyper at the time but as you are channelling it and dealing with it, it’s got to be good for you. Strangely enough that’s why the Ancient Greeks invented theatre in the first place. So what we are doing with our mojo is nothing new – it’s over 2500 years old.
