And the winner is…

Every year we have an annual video competition at Theatretrain. It happens at the end of January at the time when we move over from what we call process work to production work. It’s not easy; somehow a centre has to take the theme for the year and come up with something that fits within two minutes. And there is a trophy!

In the past, this has led to two different kinds of videos. Those where a camera is pointed at a class and we see what they have created in one take. Others where all the gizmos and cleverness of editing and special effects are added.

Every year the bar goes higher and higher. The four finalists from this year (which can be found on the website) still move me when I watch them; they really think about how they will tell the story and how they reel us into what they want to say.

It’s great to craft something short that brings together what we do. Storytelling, emotions, sound, and movement. It’s all there.

In 2021 we couldn’t present the trophy so we decided to divide 2022 in two. Our featured picture shows Tiffany King of Reading (2021 Winner) and Melanie Dykes of Bromsgrove (2022 Winner). Congratulations to them both.

Now we look forward to January 2023 when we get to see what they all make of the theme “making friends and breaking friends”.
